Birth Control Methods: Emergency Contraception Pill / Question
Published: March 20, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I need emergency contraception. I had sex and the condom broke and I'm afraid I might be pregnant. I don't know where to go or what to do. HELP!

Dear Need Emergency Concraception,

TeenHealthFX recommends that you get to a teen health clinic ASAP to get more information about Emergency Contraception.

Emergency Contraception (the morning after pill) can only be used during the 72 hours immediately following the unprotected intercourse. Emergency Contraception is available through participating doctors at 888-NOT2LATE or http://www.not-2-late.com/. Teen health centers can also provide you with information and a prescription (if appropriate) for EC. For a teen health center in your area, please check out this Planned Parenthood. If you live in northern NJ you can contact the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971-6475.

Even if 72 hours has elapsed, FX still recommends that you go to a teen health center. The medical staff their can provide you with other possible pregnancy options. Also, if you are not pregnant, they can discuss different birth control and proper safer sex guidelines.
