Female Body Concerns / Question
Published: March 27, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I would like to now if it is normal for my clitoris to pulse or throb, after climax (up to 5 mins after climax) and even after having several climaxs in one sex session (2-3 climaxs) my clitoris still pulses/throbs. Is this common/normal? or do I just have a high sexual appetite. thank you in advance.

Dear Normal For Clitoris to Pulse After Climax?,

When you are sexually excited, your vagina and the whole area around it - including the clitoris - become engorged with blood. Your clitoris pulses for a little while after you orgasm because of the high concentration of blood at that area of the body.

From what we can tell, what you're describing is completely normal, and the result of a healthy sexual appetite. However, if you have any concerns about your body, you should not hesitate to see a doctor. If you do not have a doctor and you live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971.6475 for an appointment. If you live elsewhere, get in touch with your local adolescent health center or clinic, or your local Planned Parenthood.
