Dear Is It My Period Or Something Else?,

TeenHealthFX cannot know if the blood on the toilet paper is from your period or from something else. It could be the start of menstruation from you, but it could also be something such as rectal bleeding. FX recommends that you tell a parent about what is going on and that an appointment be scheduled with your primary care physician for a check-up as soon as possible so you can find out if this is menstruation or some medical condition that requires treatment.

If your doctor determines that you have your period and you need more information on menstruation, you can read about Having Your Period on the Planned Parenthood website.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-6475 for an appointment. You can also contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood, or call your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
