Sexually Transmitted Diseases / Question
Published: April 14, 2004
Dear TeenHealthFX,
Some time back I had sex with pros. She gave me a blowjob and then we had vaginal sex using condoms. Now my fear is that I may get AIDS... since last few days I am having some blood coming out with cough (that time I had common cold). Now I can see a red spot on my inner upper roof of mouth. Are these symptoms of AIDS or any other STD? I am undergoing severe stress.

Dear Had Sex With A Pros,
It would be hard for TeenHealthFX to make a reliable and accurate diagnosis over the Internet. Proper identification of an illness not only involves a description of the problem, but also a medical history, an observation by a trained health professional and frequently, medical testing as well.
Having sex with a prostitute is considered high-risk sexual behavior. This action along with the problems you have been experiencing indicate that you should see a doctor as soon as possible. The HIV virus is only one of several sexually transmitted diseases that you can be exposed to from risky sexual behavior. Your stress level should decrease once you know what is going on and receive all the relevant medical information. If there is a problem, early detection and treatment often lead to a more promising outcome.
For more information about HIV and how it can be treated you can check out these other web sites AIDS Info and AIDS Education Global Information System.
In order to protect yourself sexually, doctors and health care providers recommend practicing safer sex procedures by using condoms each and every time you have any type of sexual relations.
If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-6475 for an appointment or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood.
