Breasts & Nipples: Health Questions & Concerns / Question
Published: May 14, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I accidentally hurt my breast, and I was wondering if it had caused any damage, and whether it might stop growing. It stopped hurting, but I'm still worried.

Dear Accidentally Hurt My Breast,

While you did not mention how you hurt your breast (whether you bumped it, hit it, cut it, burned it, or something else) you should visit your physician to determine if there has been any damage. It is a good sign  that it has stopped hurting, but still worth getting checked out for.

It is probably unlikely that an injury will cause a body part to stop growing, but after a complete exam, your doctor should be able to give you advice on how to treat the injury and alleviate any fears you may have. Hormones are usually the best indicator of when breasts will stop growing. Check out FX's answer to "So Have Mine Stopped Growing" for more information on breast development.
