Masturbation / Question
Published: October 13, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I'm 18-year-old male. I'm curious if masturbation affects hormone production, for example, testosterone?

Dear Does Masturbation Affect Hormone Production?,

Increased sexual activity -- including masturbation does not increase testosterone levels. These levels depend upon many factors including age, time of day, overall level of physical activity, and general health, but not sexual activity.

If you are concerned that masturbation will have a negative affect on your hormone levels, rest assured that masturbation is a normal, healthy practice, and one that won't have any adverse affects on your health so long as it does not interfere with your life.
