Female Puberty Issues / Question
Published: September 26, 2001

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I'm a 17-year-old female and I'm easily aroused. I was kissing my boyfriend and he was lying on top of me and I had an orgasm. I've never had sex because I am afraid of what would happen. Is this a problem? What will happen when I finally decide to have sex?

Dear Easily Aroused,

TeenHealthFX would like to reassure you that this is a problem that you will be able to manage.  It is natural to be a bit uncertain about new sexual feelings. Your fear of having sex is totally normal and may be letting you know that you might not be ready for sex yet. Allow yourself time to get used to these sexual feelings. Check out the answers to Sex! What Should I Do? and Want It To Be Good for other information about sex.

Being easily aroused should not be a problem when you have sex. If you are considering having sex remember to always practice safer sex, always using a condom. If you have any other question concerning having sex you can contact your local Planned Parenthood or if you live in Northern New Jersey, the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973.889.6350 or Girl's Street - A Young Women's Health Program at 908.522.2555. They can talk to you about taking the proper precautions and also talk with you about your concerns.
