Visiting The Doctor / Question
Published: September 26, 2001
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am a male. My friends have told me about their prostate stimulation experiences. I was wondering how one would go about stimulating the prostate and if it makes one homosexual.
Signed: Prostate Stimulation
Dear Prostate Stimulation,
Engaging in prostate stimulation is not an indication of sexual orientation. Stimulating the prostrate is said to heighten sexual pleasure and increase the intensity of a man's orgasm.
The prostrate is a small gland located within the perineum, which is the area between your testicles and anus. The prostrate produces some of the fluids that are contained in the semen that give it its whitish color. By rubbing the perineum with your or your partners fingers a feeling of pleasure is obtained.
The prostrate can also be stimulated through the anus. Whenever anal stimulation is involved you need to take extra precautions. Always use a generous amount of water-based lubricant and cover your finger with a condom. Make sure your finger nails have been cut and filed down to protect against tearing the fragile anal tissue.
You need to be aware that anal bacteria can cause serious vaginal infections and bladder infections (cystitis). After any anal stimulation, it is critical that both partners wash their hands before having any contact.
If you are considering engaging in this type of sexual behavior it would be wise to consult with a doctor to make sure there are no specific risks to you. This may sound weird, but a doctor will give you the advice you need without judging your behavior.
If you would like to make an appointment with a doctor at the Adolescent/Young Adult Center For Health in Morristown, New Jersey you can call 973.889.6350.
