Females: Your Period / Question
Published: September 26, 2001

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I received my period at the age of 13, but I have lost some weight and now my period went away. The thing that angers me most is that my breasts have stopped growing as well. I was just wondering, could my breasts still grow without a period? Or is my period necessary for breast growth, and if it is, how can I get it back?

Dear Periodless, Breastless & Helpless,

It is very common following the first period for your cycles to be irregular or stop altogether for a while. If you don't have a period for more than 6 months, please see your doctor.

Once breast growth starts it usually happens in a series of stages. For a detailed description see TeenHealthFX's response to How Does A Breast Grow.
