Male Puberty Issues / Question
Published: October 17, 2001

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am a 20-year-old college student and I have several questions that I would hope that you could answer. I am 20 and still have no hair under my arms. Is this normal? What could I do to help grow hair in that area? I only started growing pubic hair around 15; does that mean I am still in puberty right now? Could someone like myself who already is 20 still grow? At what age does the normal male stop having wet dreams?

Dear Slow Grower,

TeenHealthFX would be glad to answer your questions to the best of our ability and hopefully put some of your worries to rest. Each male goes through puberty at a period of time that is normal for that individual, some may be slower than others may but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Beginning between the ages of 11 and 16 men usually begin to grow pubic hair. They also will begin to have facial hair appear as well as the hair under their arms. If you have already begun to have facial hair develop then you should also be growing hair beneath your arms. However, some men do not grow much facial hair, therefore they may not grow a lot if hair under their arms either. This depends on the individual. Because you did start puberty at 15 you should be nearing the end. A lot of men can continue to grow into their early twenties, but are generally finished by age 18. Like we said before each man has his own growing cycle, but if you are concerned that you may not be developing completely do not hesitate to ask you doctor if everything is okay.

Wet dreams are also very personal to each individual. Wet Dreams will usually slow down when a male becomes more sexually active either through masturbation or with a partner. So, wet dreams depend upon the individual as well and many men will continue to have them into their later adult life.
