Male Puberty Issues / Question
Published: December 16, 2001

Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi, I just turned 14 a little over a month ago and I have not hit puberty yet. I am also pretty short for my age. I'm in high school now and everyone looks at me and thinks I skipped a grade. Is it normal not to hit puberty when you just turned 14?

Dear Turned 14 and Haven't Hit Puberty,

Yes it is normal to hit 14 without having hit puberty. You do not mention if you are a male or a female, but TeenHealthFX has many questions related to what happens during puberty for each sex. You may have started to reach puberty and have not recognized the stages.  See 14 And No Puberty.

Try not to pay so much attention to your physical attributes or compare yourself to your friends. People come in all shapes and sizes and it is what is on the inside that counts. You cannot judge the size of a person's heart by just looking at them.

If you are still pretty concerned, you can discuss this with your doctor. He/she can help to answer any of your questions.
