Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi, do you like violence and sex?

Signed: Violence and Sex

Dear Violence and Sex,

TeenHealthFX believes that violence and sex are two very different things that do not go together. Sex is an intimate act that is shared by two people who care about one another have mutual respect for each other.

Violence is about harming another person or trying to control them by the use of fear. People who combine violence with sex do so because of extreme anger or the need to feel powerful. In acts of sexual violence, such as rape, you'll find that the act itself is one about rage and asserting power -  and really has little to do with sex.

If you are in a relationship that is abusive or one where you are being physically harmed, you should get out of it immediately. Talk to a parent, friend, teacher or some trusted adult and ask them for help. If you need professional help click on our links page and call one of the hotline numbers that pertains to your situation. Remember, love shouldn't hurt.
