Published: May 8, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi, I'm a 16-year-old girl and I need your advice on how to lose weight safely. I want to lose like 15 lb. I would like your recommendation, the do's and don'ts of dieting for a teenager. Thank you 4 your time.

Dear 16 & Wants To Lose Weight Safely,

TeenHealthFX is a bit concerned about why it is that you want to lose weight. There is a lot of peer pressure placed on both women and men to look, dress and weigh a certain amount. However, these are not realistic goals for everyone. So before you decide to diet, evaluate why you are loosing weight. You also should be aware of your Appropriate Height & Weight.

The best way to look and feel your best is to Eat Healthy and Exercise about 4 times a week. By eating well and exercising regularly you are building a strong and healthy body.

Remember, at 16, you are still growing and need plenty of vitamins and nutrients in your diet. To be safe in your dieting choices, you may want to consult your doctor or a nutritionist. Self-confidence is something that you build and does not come overnight. By eating healthy and exercising you are building a body that you can be proud of.
