Dear TeenHealthFX,

I know this sounds really dumb, but is there any way to make your face skinnier? People tell me that's just the way I am but I'm not sure if that's true. Sometimes my face looks bigger than on other days too. Please help!

Dear Skinnier Face?,

TeenHealthFX thinks it is safe to say everyone has something about them they would like to change. However, your body shape, including your face, is influenced by your genetic background - to a certain extent you get your features from your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.). Sometimes no matter how much you diet and exercise certain things about your body may not change as much as you would like.

To have the healthiest and strongest body possible, you need to eat healthy and exercise responsibly. Again, this may not lead to the current "ideal" of thinness but a unique, healthy you.

Remember, being skinny is an ideal that today's society has created, it can be not only unhealthy but unrealistic as well. TeenHealthFX hopes that you can find happiness in yourself and cherish the features that make you unique.

If you continue to be concerned about your face, TeenHealthFX recommends that you talk with your doctor and an adult you trust, like a parent about your feelings and concerns about your weight. They can help guide you to the help you need to feel better about yourself.
