Managing Sports & Medical Conditions / Question
Published: June 11, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi I am a 15-year-old girl and I have arthritis. I also take karate 2 nights a week. I was wondering if there were some type of exercise that I could do that would not take a lot of time because I don't have much time. Please help.

Dear Arthritis Exercise,

TeenHealthFX would be glad to help you but a little more information is needed. You did not say what type of arthritis you suffer from or what part of your body is being affected. (See Puzzled About Arthritis). Also did a doctor diagnose this condition or is it something you believe you are suffering from. Then specific type of arthritis and the treatment can only be determined by tests performed by a physician.

Although arthritis is a chronic condition, many people who suffer from it, can lead active lives with a manageable amount of pain, fatigue and disability. This means becoming an active partner with your doctor in treating your condition and learning to manage your arthritis on a daily basis.

If you could write back with the specifics of your arthritis we would be more than happy to give you some suggestions on exercises.

If you would like to meet with a doctor from Adolescent/Young Adult Center For Health in Morristown, New Jersey, you can call 973.971.6475 for an appointment.
