Dear TeenHealthFX,

I wish for a flat stomach and plan to do sit ups and crunches. Do I have to do these exercises accompanied by other exercises? Can't I just do the sit-ups on a daily basis without other exercises? I am 16.

Dear Exercises For Flat Stomach,

It is not that you have to do the other exercises but it would be a good idea to target other muscles groups so that you are toning your overall body. This does not have to be strenuous workout. Walking, Running, riding a bike and strength training are simple ways to keep fit that can be enjoyable as well. A good well-rounded exercise program that is not too taxing on the body would be ideal.

While you are at it, remember that a healthy diet is important to any exercise program. Eating healthy will provide you with the proper nutrients and fuel needed for an active teenager.

Your doctor, a physical trainer, or nurse are all professionals who would be able to help advise you on developing a program that is right for you.

If you would like to meet with a doctor or nutritionist from the Adolescent/Young Adult Center For Health in Morristown, New Jersey, you can call 973.889.6350 for an appointment.
