Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi!  I do about 100 sit-ups a day to keep my stomach flat and toned, and I just wondered if this is at all harmful in any way?  Would it be the reason I haven't yet started my period?

Signed: 100 Sit-ups A Day

Dear 100 Sit-ups A Day,

TeenHealthFX thinks 100 sit-ups a day probably is fine for you as long as you are following good form and not straining your neck or back muscles.

TeenHealthFX needs more information from you to figure out why you have not gotten your period, or menstruation, yet - like how old you are, how much you weigh and what other kinds of exercise you are doing and what your eating habits are.  Read the answers to Periodless and Periodless And Hispanic for more information about menstruation.

If, after reading these you have concerns about not getting your period, talk with someone you are comfortable with, like your mother or an older sister.  A visit to your doctor or teen center may also help to figure things out for you.

Signed: TeenHealthFX
