Healthy Ways Of Losing And Gaining Weight / Question
Published: March 9, 2004
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am a 16 year old female and I weigh 152 pounds. I have a small bone frame and about 28% body fat. I have been trying to lose weight for 4 weeks now, but I've made no progress. I started doing a combination of 20 - 30 minutes of cardio. And weight lifting every other day. Also, I started eating healthier by cutting down a little on fatty and sugary foods. My clothes do not even feel a bit looser! Why can't I lose weight and fat?

Dear Dieting, Eating Healthy & Not Losing?,
Good for you that you started eating healthier and following an exercise program. If you want to take off those few and I mean few extra pounds, you are definitely doing it the right way. Weight loss and toning is a slow process. Do not get frustrated because the key to a successful weight loss program is doing it slow, exercising and eating healthy.
This said, TeenHealthFX recommends that you go to your doctor and maybe see a nutritionist who can monitor your progress with you. This not only gives you the support you need, but can also assure you that you are doing it healthy.
It sounds from your question that you are frustrated with the process of doing it the healthy way. Try not to let this happen to you. Be patient. The benefits of toning do not happen overnight and you want them to happen slowly. If it happens slowly, it stays with you longer.
