Dear TeenHealthFX,
I used ephedrine for a period of about 6 months to improve my appearance and never really paid too much attention to the warnings until a friend brought the psychological effects to my attention which they referred to as "ephedrine rage" the label includes hypertension and psychosis. I did notice a trend in my behavior leaning to an aggressive state, and I have since stopped taking it (my usage never exceeded the recommended dose), but I have noticed a huge loss in my ability to control my temper since then, Are there any know risks of permanent psychological damage?

Dear Ephedra Use - Permanent Psychological Damage?,
TeenHealthFX is glad to hear that you have stopped taking ephedrine - as you have seen, this drug can bring on many negative side effects. Unfortunately, the long-term effects of taking this drug are unknown.
It is possible that the anger you are experiencing is a result of taking the drug. If you are concerned, we suggest you see a doctor. If you do not have a doctor and you live in northern New Jersey, please call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971.6475. If you live elsewhere, get in touch with your local adolescent health center or clinic.
In the meanwhile, we suggest you read the answer to How Can I Help Control My Anger? for thoughts on how you can keep your temper in check. We also suggest you keep in mind the possibility that your difficulty in controlling these feelings may be the result of something other than (or in addition to) your having taken ephedrine. If you need someone to talk to, try letting a school counselor, teacher, or parent know how you have been feeling. It may feel better just to talk to someone.
Finally, we want you to know that it is never a good idea to take drugs to "improve your appearance." Your body is still growing and changing, and it is not healthy to take unnecessary drugs. If you were taking ephedrine to lose weight, we recommend that in the future, you can reach and maintain a healthy weight by eating healthy and getting regular exercise.
