Dear TeenHealthFX,
I get a sharp pain in my right shoulder when I am writing or doing something for too long. What is the problem?

Dear Sharp Pain In Right Shoulder,

TeenHealthFX is not able to determine the exact cause of the pain that you are experiencing over the Internet. It is possible that this could be the result of an injury, trauma to the shoulder, overuse, or misuse of the muscles.

Whenever you experience sharp pain, FX recommends that you go to see a doctor to get checked out. This examination will probably include a detailed history of any recent injuries, daily repetitive motions, and possibly x-rays or other diagnostic tests. Then the physician can make a more accurate diagnosis.

If you have a primary care physician, start by making an appointment with him or her. If you live in northern NJ and would like to find a doctor, call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971-6475.
