Dear Does Too Much Sugar Cause Diabetes?,

To directly answer your question, while eating excessive amounts of candy and sugar is not healthy for anyone for a number of reasons (high calorie intake, dental health, etc), you will probably not get Diabetes just from eating a lot of sugar. Cutting down on your candy intake might help you to stay at a healthy weight and keep your teeth healthy though. Since you enjoy candy so much, you may want to try to curb this behavior by eating healthier foods as substitutes like fresh vegetables and fruits.

Here is some basic information on Diabetes so that you can understand the disease better:

In a healthy person, the pancreas produces insulin. Insulin is needed so that sugar can enter the cells to act as fuel for the body. Type I Diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not produce insulin. Type II Diabetes occurs more frequently, and is caused by the body not producing enough insulin, or the cells ignoring the insulin, therefore not allowing sugar to access the cells and energize the body. Diabetes affects people of all ages and ethnicities. Those people who have a familial history of Diabetes have a higher risk of becoming Diabetic. Other risks include obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and a high fat/high sugar diet. While there are many signs and symptoms of Diabetes, many people do not recognize them or think that they are serious, and may have to get very sick before they get diagnosed and treated.
