Dear Took Plan B But Never Got My Period - What Should I Do?,

Between the birth control and Plan B you should be well-protected from getting pregnant. There are different forms of birth control, such as the birth control pill, that can be very effective when taken as directed. And Plan B is up to 89% effective when taken within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex. Plan B can continue to reduce the risk of pregnancy up to 120 hours (five days) after unprotected sex, but is less effective the more time passes.

As for not getting your period, one of the side effects of Plan B are changes in your period. Women who take Plan B might find that their next period is early, late, heavy, lighter or even more spotty. So it is very possible you have not gotten your period yet because you took Plan B.

If you already missed your period and are concerned about being pregnant, you could consider taking a pregnancy test. If you are worried about this, or just need some confirmation to ease your mind, you could also check in with your primary care physician, gynecologist or an adolescent medicine specialist.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
