Unprotected Sex For a Minute

Published: 19 December 2012
Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi, I'm 16 years old and about 7 months ago I had unprotected sex for like a minute then I told him to put a condom on cause I didn't feel right having unprotected sex. He didn't cum or anything and it lasted for like 5minutes at the most. What's the chances of getting a STD or even....HIV? please help I have been freaking out. (Also only infection I had was an yeast infection and that happen about 4 months after we had sex )

Dear Unprotected Sex For a Minute,

I can take less than a minute to get pregnant from unprotected sex. Even if he did not ejaculate there was pre seminal fluid present which can contain sperm which in turn can cause pregnancy.

If either you or your partners have an STD then you put yourself at a high risk for contracting a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD.) Remember a person can have and STD and not be aware of it but can still transmit it to their partner.

Before engaging in any further sexual activity, speak to your doctors about getting tested for STDs. Talk to your doctor about ways to protect yourself from the transmission of STDs. Get tested prior to any sexual activity and then use condoms during vaginal, anal, and oral sex. If you or your partner ever test positive for any STD's, speak to your doctor about how to stay safe given your specific diagnosis.

Ask your doctor about the best ways to protect yourself from unwanted pregnancies. Teens who are sexually active are recommended to use a condom each and every time they have sex (or there is any kind of penetration, however brief it may be), as well as a back-up method of birth control such as the pill.
