Worried About the Consequences of Reporting My Parents and Nothing Happening From the Report

Published: September 26, 2017
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I don't know if this is clear from my previous question http://www.teenhealthfx.com/answers/general.detail.html/1505875164068-121.html A older family friend of mine is helping me meet this person at the library which is a registered safe place. My parents emotionally abuse me and my mom has recently started slapping me really hard. I do have a diagonosed eating disorder and depression and anxiety (What a bundle of joy) However on the bright side today marks the third month without self harm. I am choosing to keep my internet life from my parents but the aforementioned older family friend of mine is almost 18 and I have informed her Are there any ways I can report my parents and insure they will have some sort of consequence, because if I do and nothing happens I know I will be in deep trouble

Dear Worried About the Consequences of Reporting My Parents and Nothing Happening From the Report,

Given your concern, TeenHealthFX recommends that you start off by contacting The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453), which is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since all calls are anonymous. It would be helpful for you to be able to speak to someone to explain the dynamics at home and your concerns about reporting. The staff member you speak to will also be able to get additional information from you that they may need in terms of recommending how you should proceed.

TeenHealthFX is not clear about the meeting at the library you mentioned, but we’re wondering if you are talking about meeting someone you met online? If so, FX would recommend your speaking to someone about this, such as a school counselor. FX wants you to make healthy decisions for yourself in terms of not putting yourself in unsafe situations, as well as not putting yourself in a position to be taken advantage of given the vulnerable position you are in with all of the issues you are currently dealing with.

Signed: TeenHealthFX
