What is Social and Emotional Learning?
SEL, is the process through which children, adolescents and adults obtain and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Why it is important?
Teens gain better social-emotional skills, improve attitudes about self, others and school, improves positive classroom behavior while reducing emotional stress and leads to lower drug use. It helps people of all ages understand and be empathetic to what others are going through and to find that common ground.
