My Partner and I Suffer from Anxiety. How Can We Help Each Other?

Published: April 11, 2021
Dear TeenHealthFX,
Hi. My partner and I both suffer from anxiety, although they suffer a lot from Relationship OCD (ROCD). How do I help them through their ROCD while still making sure that I'm not hurting myself and my self-esteem in the process?

Dear My Partner and I Suffer from Anxiety. How Can We Help Each Other?,

TeenHealthFX understands how hard it is to try to help someone else when you suffer from anxiety. We think it is great that you are aware of your needs and want to make sure you are taking care of yourself in your relationship. Unfortunately, we cannot diagnose or provide treatment over the internet. Anxiety and ROCD do not always show up the same way and something that may help you may not help your partner. We recommend reaching out to a school counselor or professional mental health counselor to help you both learn how to cope and learn to help each other.

If you need help finding a professional counselor, Behavioral Health Services in NJ - Atlantic Health has great resources available.
