Why does my hip hurt when I sneeze, after I run, and when I put it in certain positions?

Dear Why Does My Hip Hurt?,

There are various reasons why your hip might be hurting you. It could be the result of a sports injury, such as a ligament or tendon strain. Sometimes in teens the bones are growing a bit faster than the tendons and ligaments, which can cause some discomfort. It is also possible that there is an issue with your hip alignment. TeenHealthFX cannot know the exact reason your hip is hurting, but since you are experiencing this pain it is important for you to meet with your primary care physician or an adolescent medicine specialist so you can be properly diagnosed and receive any needed medical treatment.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
