Dear TeenHealthFX,
People keep saying masks don't stop you from getting sick. Do masks really work? Why do I need to wear one all day at school? Signed over covid.

Dear Over COVID,

TeenHealthFX understands that there is a lot of confusing information going around regarding the use of masks. In addition, we also understand how hard it has been to cope with the changes that COVID-19 has brought. It is important to remember that even though people may be “over covid” it has not gone away and the risk of getting infected is still very real.

Masks do work in preventing the spread of COVID-19 when used correctly and consistently when social distancing cannot be done. There have been case studies that prove their effectiveness. For example,  the CDC reported a case study done Missouri, a hairstylist whose salon implemented a mask policy tested positive to COVID after working with 139 customers. As a result of the mask policy, no one got sick with COVID-19.  The Mayo Clinic has a guide here on the different masks and their effectiveness so you can make an educated choice on picking the right one for you.   Stay safe!
