Can Taking Carbimazole Help Me?

Published: April 19, 2024
Dear TeenHealth FX,
I?m 21 years old, athletic build, good weight for my height and slowly increasing. Most of my life i?ve been skinny, have a really fast metabolism so to put on/maintain weight I have to eat lots. A few years ago I was having blood tests as I was passing out under really intense physical activities (my heart rate would sky rocket, resting it is currently (and was then as well) about 100). I was told I have an overactive thyroid and that was that, nothing else came of it. My question is, what would happen if I ordered and consumed carbimazole (anti thyroid medication). What are the negatives? What are the positives? Would taking small doses help my metabolism and heart rate slightly? I?m going to do it soon as I can?t see any reason not to, just want some opinions on it as i can?t find anyone that?s done the same thing.

Dear Can Taking Carbimazole Help Me?,

TeenHealth FX knows that you are confused and want to know more about how your body reacts to certain things. Unfortunately, TeenHealth FX cannot diagnose and / or recommend medication over the internet, and it is complicated not knowing more information about your health history. That said, we suggest speaking to a doctor that can look more closely at your health history before trying any medication. You can ask them about any concerns about your health too, such as side effects, how long it can take for you to see results, the results you would see, etc.!

We highly suggest not taking any new medications without getting information and guidance from a doctor.

The sooner you go to a doctor, the sooner you will get the answers you are looking for. If you still have concerns and need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.
