Dear I Am Being Cyberbullied In School. What Do I Do?,

We are sorry to hear of your current situation. We strongly recommend that you reach out to a parent or other trusted adult to let them know what is going on. In addition, a school counselor would also be a good person to reach out to since it is happening in school. Many states have laws against bullying (which includes cyberbullying) and is taken very seriously.

In the meantime, here are some tips to help you get through it:

  • Do not respond. At times, bullies are trying to get a reaction out of you and if you ignore it, they may stop on their own.
  • Keep a record of the bullying. Take screenshots and save e-mails so that you can show your parents and the school counselor.
  • Reach out to friends. Let your friends know what is going on so you do not need to deal with it on your own.
  • Block the person (or people). This way the messages will stop.
  • Take a social media break and do something that makes you happy.
  • Lastly and most important, take care of yourself. Think of all your positive traits. Be proud for taking the right next step in getting help and remember how awesome you are. Everyone is an individual and deserves to be appreciated that way.

We hope this helps!
