What is Happening to Me and What Can I Do?

Published: November 22, 2025
Dear TeenHealth FX,
I?m 14 and for days I?m never hungry. When I try to eat even one bite of anything I instantly feel full and like I?m going to throw up. I have really bad anxiety and depression and I?m too scared to tell my parents or anyone in real life. What is happening to me and what can I do?

Dear What is Happening to Me and What Can I Do?,

TeenHealth FX understands your concern. It can be scary when we don't know or understand what is going on with our bodies. Unfortunately, TeenHealth cannot diagnose over the internet, but we can offer some guidance.

Anxiety and depression can show up in the body in many different ways. Some people may feel hungry all the time, while others may lose their appetite. Sleep can also be affected. For some, it becomes difficult to sleep, and for others, they may sleep much more than usual. These changes can be confusing, but they are not uncommon. Talking with a trusted adult such as counselors, coaches, siblings, aunt/uncle, faith leaders, etc. can help you sort through what you’re experiencing and find the support you need. Reaching out about what you are experiencing can be scary, but it can be freeing to not hold such strong emotions anymore!

Reaching out to a doctor is also a great next step. Doctors approach these conversations without judgment, and their goal is to help you understand what’s going on and help you feel better. If you need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist. If urgent care is more comfortable for you, please visit this site for a list of Atlantic Health urgent cares.
