How can I feel socially accepted in society today?
TeenHealth FX understands how hard it can be to find a solid group of friends or a friend!
Feeling socially accepted in society may look different for everyone but the most important thing to remember is that you should never change who you are, never change your values and morals, or your goals! You may feel like you are “part” of something but at the end of the day, it will hurt you in the long run because you are not being true to yourself.
With that being said, some advice for feeling accepted socially in society today is:
- Find people who share the same interests as you!
- Joining a club at school, volunteer work, a job, or hobby like painting or yoga can be great places to meet new people.
- Build a supportive community!
- Having people in your life who want the best for you is important. Having negative or fake people around can be draining.
- Practice healthy communication skills!
- That can look like learning how to initiate conversation, how to express opinions and boundaries respectfully, and how to resolve conflict within society / friendships.
- Learn to be comfortable with your alone time!
- Having a community is extremely important but also being comfortable with being alone. Alone time allows you to prioritize self-care, getting to know yourself and gain independence, stress reduction, self-awareness, and boosts productivity and creativity.
When you start to create a small group of friends that share similar interests to you, the world, your hometown, can start to feel smaller! Stay true to you and the rest will follow!
