Painful Lump Below Penis

Published: June 13, 2018
Dear TeenHealthFX,

I have a lump like structure located right below the penis and above my scrotum. It pains when I press it. There is no sort of secretion or anything for the time being but it has changed from just a lump to a reddish white coloured lump. I'm kinda scared. Please Help !

Dear Painful Lump Below Penis,

TeenHealthFX cannot conduct a proper diagnosis over the internet. Possible causes may include, yet are not limited to a sexually transmitted infection, genital wart, irritated hair folice, etc.

However, since the lump you described is causing you pain, FX suggests scheduling an appointment with your doctor. If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.

Until you can schedule an appointment with your doctor, TeenHealthFX suggests the following:

  • Do not have sexual intercourse.
  • Do not touch the lump.

Further, TeenHealthFX also recommends that all sexually active teenagers use condoms every time they have sexual intercourse. Condoms are the only form of birth control that can protect from sexually transmitted infections, and should be used in addition to another form of birth control for best protection.

FX suggests the following resources for additional information:
