Does Surgery Delay My Period?
Published: January 21, 2020
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I had unprotected sex on Jan. 3rd. My period was due on Jan. 10th, I had wisdom teeth surgery on the 10th. I have take two pregnancy tests, both came out negative. I have experienced period like symptoms but they have either stopped or i haven't noticed. My nipples were a little sore but haven't been since. I am not sure if i could be pregnant or if i just missed my period because of the medications from surgery and/or stress. Today (Jan. 21) marks 12 days late. I am a full time college student so i am freaking out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Does Surgery Delay My Period? ,
Unfortunately, we cannot diagnose over the
internet. It is possible due to timing that you may have taken the pregnancy
test too early to detect it or it is in fact negative. The only way to know for
sure is to see a doctor to confirm it. Since you mention you are in college,
your school most likely has a health center you can go to get checked out. If
for some reason they cannot, they can refer to someone who it close by.
In addition, if you are in northern New Jersey and need help finding a doctor and you can call the Adolescent/Young
Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an
adolescent medicine specialist. We hope this helps!
