Dear How Can I Speed Up Puberty?,

Puberty is not something that you can speed up. It is a natural process that will occur in its own time. There are some people who have underlying medical issues that interfere with puberty, however, those kinds of issues would need to be diagnosed and treated by a medical professional. If a young man reaches 14 and has absolutely no signs of puberty (deepening voice, hair in the armpits or groin, body odor, acne testicles start growing), then it would be important to schedule an appointment with a primary care physician or adolescent medicine specialist to find out if there are any underlying medical issues that need to be treated.

TeenHealthFX can appreciate that it can be difficult for girls and guys alike to deal with the fact that teens go through puberty at different rates. It can be hard seeing your peers experiencing something that you are not. But, as we stated above, there is no way to speed up this process. So try to be patient and know that your time will come.

As for your question about supplements, FX strongly advises against taking any kind of hormonal supplements as many problems can be caused by taking hormones that are not medically necessary. Trust that your body knows what it is doing and do not mess with this natural process. If there is ever any need for any kind of supplements, it would be only at the recommendation of a medical professional because there is some kind of medical issue going on.

If you have any further questions or concerns, it is best to speak with a medical professional about it. You could start by speaking to your school nurse if you want. Or you could meet with your primary care physician or an adolescent medicine specialist. If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
