Dear One of My Testicles is About 5 Times Smaller Than the Other One,

Puberty is an important time in your life. Most teenage boys experience puberty during ages 9 and 14. Throughout puberty, you will experience genital growth. The size difference in your testicles could simply be a result of puberty.

It is normal for men to have two different sized testicles. However, since you described a size difference of about 5x, TeenHealthFX suggests scheduling an appointment with your doctor so he/she can conduct a testicular exam. During this exam, your doctor will examine your testes. If necessary, he/she will perform a scrotal ultrasound, which is a safe and painless procedure.

Generally, teens should receive a testicular exam once a year, so if you have an upcoming yearly physical, you can wait to speak with your doctor then. If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
