My Vaginal Area Is Itchy And Swollen. What Do I Do?

Published: February 15, 2020
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I had rough intercourse 2 months ago (as a virgin) and since then although I’ve had my period, my vaginal area has been itching and now my vulva is swollen. What does that mean?

Dear My Vaginal Area Is Itchy And Swollen. What Do I Do?,

Unfortunately, TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose over the internet. It is important to reach out to a parent/guardian and to see a medical professional as soon as possible. Even though you may have gotten your period, it is still possible you have been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection.

We would also like to mention the importance of practicing safe sex. TeenHealthFX encourages all teens to use condoms every time they engage in any type of sexual activity. Condoms are only 98% in preventing the transmission of sexually transmitted infections when used correctly and on every sexual encounter.

If you need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.
