If I Am Going To Get Sick, How Long Would It Take To Kick In?

Published: July 10, 2020
Dear TeenHealthFX,
Well I was staying at my boyfriends house and before lockdown stage 3 came back up and the day I left his house he had kissed me in the morning then came back home early because he threw up at work and then he went to sleep and then he sat on the couch waiting for doctors to call and I was holding his hand trying to comfort him and his hands were all clamy and I kissed him and his forehead to help and I was if I’m going to get sick how long would it take to kick in?

Dear If I Am Going To Get Sick, How Long Would It Take To Kick In?,

We are sorry to hear that your boyfriend is not feeling well. TeenHealthFX.com cannot diagnose over the internet, but there are some important factors that need to be considered to determine your next steps:

Was your boyfriend tested for COVID-19? If yes and he tested positive; We strongly encourage you to get tested. It can take up to 14 days for the sickness to “kick in.” However, some people are asymptomatic which means they do not show any symptoms and could unknowingly spread it to others.

If he was not tested or tested negative, the doctor he spoke to would determine what was wrong, if he needed to be seen and how to treat the illness. Only a diagnosis from a medical professional can determine how long it can take for you to get sick if you even get sick at all.

We have a whole section on COVID-19 with resources, hot topics and have answered various question on the topic ranging from the facts and symptoms to what social distancing is. It can be found here.
