Could This Be Herpes?

Published: April 25, 2017
Dear TeenHealthFX,
Hello I've had protected sex this last month and about weeks later my vagian started burning so much t was very irritating that I couldn't stop scratching it so bad with toilet paper that I made it bleed. It was more near my urethra. It was swollen, and unbearable... I went to see 2 doctors they both prescribed me yeast infection pills and second one cream to insert. I'm on day 4 of the cream and my itching is gone and I got my period 4 days ago too so that might help with itching as well.. I recently also noticed a painful cut on my lip idk how it appeared ... I decided also to take a look with a mirror and noticed little bumps near my urethra I'm so terrified this might be herpes... does this sound like it?

TeenHealthFX suggests that you finish out the cream you are using to treat the yeast infection as prescribed by your doctor. If you are having any adverse reactions to the cream, definitely let your doctor know that right away. As for the cut and the bumps, TeenHealthFX cannot know exactly what they could be. It is possible the bumps are warts or due to herpes, but you would only be able to know for sure with a physical examination of the area. That said, FX recommends that you schedule an appointment with a doctor to ensure that the yeast infection has cleared up and to find out about the cut and bumps.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
